Full Description
Experiencing two nights in the Golden Sahara Desert of Merzouga is an amazing experience for visitors to Morocco, and this four-day plan allows you to travel further and discover more along the way.
Visit UNESCO-listed Ait Ben Haddou, the Valley of the Roses, and Tinghir; stop at traditional Berber villages near the Todra Gorge; and then take a camel trek through Morocco’s highest dunes, the Erg Chebbi, and sleep under the Milky Way in a Berber tent for two dramatic nights.
Day 1
- 6 HOURS DRIVE
Our staff will pick you up from your hotel in Marrakech at around 7:30 a.m. and accompany you to the departure place, which is located in the main square, Jamaa El Fna.
The tour begins at 8 a.m. and includes a visit to the World Heritage Site of UNESCO, Kasbah Ait Benhaddou, lunch in Ouarzazate, and a journey through Skoura Oasis, Kalaat M’gouna, and the Valley of Roses to the Dadès Valley.
Stay the night at a Dadès hotel with half-board (dinner and breakfast the next day included).
Day 2
- 4 HOURS DRIVE
Following breakfast at your accommodation, leave the Dades gorges for Erg Chebbi, the gateway to the Sahara desert.
Witness the dispersed Berber regions along the road, then drive via Tinjdad, Jorf, and Erfoud to get a sense of the Saharan landscape. Lunch can be had at some roadside restaurants.
Before heading to Merzouga, visit the Tafilalet oasis. We take a little break in Merzouga before climbing on the back of camels for 1 hour and 30 minutes to cross the sand dunes en route to a nomadic Berber camp.
Hearing camp drums in the Sahara desert allows you to see the sand dunes and desert in a timeless way.
Capture shots of the stunning sunset from atop a high dune. Then, go camping to spend the night in a nomad tent with a bonfire and berber music performing, resting underneath the starry sky before falling asleep. (dinner and breakfast the next day included)
Day 3
Get up early to enjoy a buffet breakfast at the Erg Cheebi camp.
You have the option to spend the day at the camp, refreshing your body with a shower, relaxing around, and enjoying the easygoing lifestyle away from the city’s lights, noises, and cars. You will wait to join the other participants until they get to the camp at around 17:30. (Lunch is not provided but can be ordered from our camp staff.)
Alternatively, after breakfast, you may take an hour and a half-long morning camel ride back to Merzouga Auberge, where you can refresh by taking a shower, relax, and see how Berbers spend their days until the next group of participants arrives around 16:00. You will be able to recreate your incredible adventure and travel an hour and thirty minutes on camel from Merzouga to the camp, where you will be able to see the sunset. (Lunch is not included but can be ordered through the Auberge staff.)
Enjoying an endless view of the sand dunes and the surrounding environment while listening to the camp drummers in the middle of the Moroccan desert.
With your camera, capture the magnificent sunset from the top of a towering dune.
After that, spend the night sleeping under the stars, finishing the evening with a campfire and some Berber music before bed. (This includes dinner and breakfast next day.)
Day 4
- 8 HOURS DRIVE
Get up early for a continental breakfast at the camp.
Catch the sunrise over the dunes, then ride your camel back to the Merzouga meeting point to prepare for a new day away from the desert on your journey to Fes, where you will change drivers but not the performance. Before you knock on Fes’s door, you’ll need to take some time off to adjust to your new automobile.
The driving road is to cross the Ziz Valley through Errachidia, or Ighrem n Ulzuz, referring to Ksar Essouk, to stop in Midelt to feed your travel soul’s starving belly before driving across the Middle Atlas Mountains and the gems of the pine woods, Imouzzar and Ifran, known in Morocco as a “Little Switzerland.”.
We arrive at Fes about 18:00 p.m.

It’s essentially the same trip content; the only difference is that the four-day tour includes an extra night in Merzouga Sahara Camp.

A shared triple or quadruple room for the same gender (with a private bathroom) is going to be available for the first night at the standard hotel.
A shared quadruple tent (with the same gender) is going to be available for the second & the third night at the standard berber camp. (Shared showers, western toilets, and washing sinks are available outside tents.)
